Description
In 1903, on the 2nd kilometer of the Andrejsala Elevator branch, there was a 'Pasture Post', where a 2-kilometer section of the Riga Commodity Station was built. It consisted of loading and unloading, sorting, receiving and dispatching tracks and large warehouses. The existing building is the only preserved warehouse of the Riga Commodity Station. The area from the south and west is limited by Hanzas and P.Brieža streets - busy and important city highways. To the east and north of the plot, the historic neighborhood of Skanste is now the multifunctional development area of New Hanz. The compact historic volume with new additions is becoming the ambitious landscape and space-forming element of the New Hanza City development area with a bright, expressive image as well as a kind of business card for the 'New City'. At the forefront of Pulkveža Brieža and Hanzas streets, there is a wide open public space for the daily rest of the townspeople, as well as for organizing various cultural events not only indoors. The building and the area around it become an important public center - a historical value, a new process, a fresh idea and a store of inspiration, a new magnet in the city.
