Description

The intensive training program on strategic approach to spatial planning "Public Outdoor Space As An Instrument for Facilitating Social Rebirth" encompassed organizing theoretical lectures, practical workshops and hands-on work with the urban environment within the scope of one project. The task of the participants of "Radi Rīgu!" was to seek such strategically important spaces in the neighbourhoods for inhabitants that would aid social restoration of the environment at local level and to act as a driving force for complex long-term development of the neighbourhood and inspire inhabitants to engage in rebirth of their vicinity, make them feel generally responsible for their surrounding environment, and work jointly with professionals in order to identify opportunities to influence social processes and events. Within the scope of "Radi Rīgu!" seminar five territories were identified applying spatial planning methods; these were the territories that were facing the most immediate need for creating a future development vision and arrangement of the public space – Āgenskalns, Bolderāja/Daugavgrīva, Čiekurkalns, Krasta Street and Ziepniekkalns.
